CASE STUDY

RSPCA Tasmania

RSPCA Tasmania is dedicated to protecting animals and educating the community about appropriate animal care.

As a not-for-profit organisation, everything they do is made possible by the contributions received from supporters, community events and fundraising activities.

Background

RSPCA Tasmania run various campaigns throughout the year to engage with current and prospective supporters. These campaigns are focused on sharing their initiatives and raising vital funds to help care for, rehabilitate and provide shelter to animals in need. There are a number of ways these campaigns are distributed, with physical mail being one of the methods used to generate awareness and ask for much-needed donations.

Some of the records within RSPCA Tasmania’s database – those containing the contact details of supporters, prospective donors and volunteers – were unreliable and outdated. Postal addresses were incorrect, incomplete or not formatted according to Australia Post standards. These inaccuracies in address data prevented the successful delivery of fundraising material, resulting in mail that was either returned to sender or undeliverable, incurring excess costs for RSPCA Tasmania in the process.

Solution

RSPCA Tasmania were looking for a trusted data partner for the job when they received a recommendation for Thryv Data from their Victorian counterpart. They subsequently engaged us to improve the state of their database, so they could have confidence that the contact information for their supporters and potential donors was up to date.

They provided us with just over 20,000 addresses, and we used our bulk data cleansing tool – MacroMatch - to either validate or correct them. We flagged addresses in the database that were invalid, provided new addresses for people who had moved, and identified any duplicate addresses.

Using MacroMatch, Thryv Data was able to improve the quality of contact information in RSPCA Tasmania’s database. As a result, we provided RSPCA Tasmania with the confidence that nearly 75% of their addresses on file were deliverable. Over 15% of addresses were corrected and matched to a valid Australia Post address, and over 7% of addresses were flagged as invalid because people had moved house, did not provide an updated address or were no longer contactable.

“Before working with Thryv Data, we had little faith in our database. Since undergoing the data cleaning project using MacroMatch, we know that any time we run campaigns for fundraising, we’re going to reach our contacts. My dealings with Thryv Data have always been warm, clear and practical.”
